Visibility 9-11 welcome's David Slesinger to the program to talk about his upcoming action campaign of non-violent civil disobedience. The first action, Escalate Now! by Davids newly formed group, 911courage.org will be to leaflet the opening of the new Oliver Stone film World Trade Center in an attempt to stage non-violent civil disobedience actions in 24 states on August 9, 2006. This is an ongoing action campaign which will continue at other films and opportunities until the truth about the September 11th attacks is known.
This is a little long, I apologize.
I am as they say \"very heavy\" into technology. Though that\'s my main focus from day to day, my view is much broader, and I see something insidious happening which directly reflects what you’re telling us.
We agree that it\'s important for people to know their history, but so much of history is recorded and presented by consolidated media in a very two-dimensional way, like shadows on the wall of Plato’s Cave. History has also always been a self-aggrandizing tale told by the \'winner\'. And of course today, with media being so consolidated, news is big business.
It will get worse in a way that I doubt too many people have considered. The use of digital rights management is growing. An individual digital cable subscriber chooses programming from an on-screen menu generated by the service provider. Therefore a subscriber\'s viewing habits can be monitored in real-time down to the minute.
The technology exists today to selectively deny a subscriber access to any piece of programming the service provider chooses. It’s too soon to implement that though because the necessary consumer electronics have not achieved a sufficient market penetration.
It’s too early to implement another technology that would restrict the number of times and over what length of time a subscriber would be able to replay something they recorded.
You think the media is already in the government’s pocket now. Wait until they implement another technology that would prevent an individual from recording whatever programming the service provider chooses.
To do that is to wrest one of our means of recording our history as it actually happened in front of the unblinking eye of the camera. Without it, we won’t have it for later viewing and analysis. This is exactly the sort of thing that helps bleach a stammering and stuttering puppet president’s dumb-fuck comments from the population’s memory.
Too many people forgive, but that’s not enough. The gov also wants us
